This is Ella posting our first blog. Thats right I managed to sort out our blog. Yay!!
We've had a reasonably specifc idea of our plot from the beggining (que inspiration when walking to school) but as per usual there will probably be changes made to incorporate the technology side of things etc. However.. at the moment this is how things are ideally going to pan out.
The Plot.
The plot is actually mainly based on a nursery rhyme that was sung to me when I was young. (Thanks Gran!!). Some of you might be familiar with it but i'll write it on here in case you're not. Maybe I might even make a sound recording for you if thats possible...
"The Grandfather clock was too tall for the shelf so it stood ninety years on the floor.
It was taller by far than the old man itself but it weighed not a penny weight more.
It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born, and was always his pleasure and his pride.
But it stopped, short, never to go again, when the old man died."
The idea is essentially based on an old man being stalked and killed for our opening sequence. He is looking after his young grandson for the evening but after his grandson is collected he is tragically killed in the act of winding up his grandfather clock. Que nursery rhyme, sung in his grandson's voice, sounding etheral and choral during a slow motion blurred shot of his grandfather dying. This will be cross cut with the final chimes of the grandfather clock as its hands fall to rest on 12pm. We have not decided whether to have the Grandfather teach his grandson the song with a flash forward to the death or to simply have the rhyme played over scenes of his death.
Shots.
We were planning to use mainly voyeristic shots as if the killer is watching the pair from the very beggining, possible shooting the Grandfather collecting his Grandson from school, with the killer watching them walking down an empty road home. We also planned to use shots through the window panes with the divides clearly showing, obscuring part of the scene inside but making it obvious they are P.O.V shots. This was bizarrely inspired by shots from 'The Office' but also employs a Hitchcockian theme. We were also thinking of using shots with the action just outside of the frame for the killing scene, and using diegetic sound to portray the violence (Hitchcock) with a ECU (Memento, Nolan) of the dead man's eyes as he dies, before zooming in to a graphic match of the clock face.
Sound.
We were thinking about using mainly silence, and hopefully some diegetic sounds, although this may not work out as the microphones we have access to aren't that great.... However we will try our best!!
Actors.
As far as actors go we have a few ideas:
My little brother Oscar to play the Grandson
Lydia's grandad to play the grandad!
and someone to play the killer, even though only their arm will be shot.
Sorry if any of this sounds unclear, and feel free to comment any opinions on our ideas, or if you don't get anything.... Thanks.
